TutorTap — User Manual

Overview

TutorTap helps people teach and learn skills. Mentors can list what they teach, and clients can find help nearby or online. You can chat, schedule sessions, manage jobs and payments, and leave reviews — all in one place.

  • Works on web and on the mobile app.
  • Secure payments with Stripe and clear session scheduling.
  • Optional boosts and saved search upgrades to reach more people and get alerts faster.

Getting started

Web

  1. Go to Sign up or Sign in.
  2. Open your profile and add a photo, short bio, city, and skills.
  3. Turn on location to see nearby matches (optional).
  4. Use Discover or Jobs to find people or posts. Save any search you like.

Mobile app

  1. Open the app and sign in from Settings.
  2. Allow notifications so you don’t miss messages or booking updates.
  3. Complete your profile from the Profile tab.
  4. Use Discover, Jobs, Messages, and Sessions tabs to work faster.

Finding places & maps

  • Start typing a city or business name to see suggestions. Pick one to refine your search.
  • Turn on location to get results near you. You can still search by city without sharing location.
  • Saved searches remember your filters and can alert you when new matches appear.
  • Map views work on web and mobile when keys are set by the team. You can check status on /about.

For mentors (teachers)

  • Set up profile: add what you teach, your experience, city/state, and availability. Verified profiles get more trust.
  • Offers & jobs: apply to jobs that match your skills. You can send offers and propose milestones.
  • Sessions: schedule a time and place (online or in‑person). Reschedule if plans change.
  • Payments: payments are held safely until milestones are delivered. Connect your payout method in Settings.
  • Boosts: boost your profile for extra visibility when you need more leads.

For clients (learners)

  • Post a job: describe what you need and your budget. Or browse mentors directly.
  • Compare mentors: view profiles, reviews, and response time. Message to confirm fit.
  • Book sessions: pick a time that works, or suggest alternatives.
  • Protected payments: pay for milestones; funds are released when work is approved.
  • Saved searches: save your favorite filters and turn on alerts to catch new matches.

Messages & sessions

  • Use chat to share details and ask questions. You can send text and links.
  • When ready, propose a session with a title, date/time, place, and duration.
  • Need to change it? Reschedule from the session page. Both sides get updates.
  • After each session, leave a review to help others.

Jobs, offers & contracts

  • Clients create jobs; mentors apply or send offers.
  • Contracts can include milestones. Payments are collected upfront and released after each milestone is approved.
  • Keep all conversation and changes inside the app for clarity.

Workshops

  • Mentors can host group workshops with a title, date/time, location, and capacity.
  • Clients can buy a ticket and get reminders before it starts.

Plans, boosts & billing

  • Pro plan: unlocks extra features. Manage from Settings on mobile or from your profile/billing on the web.
  • Profile boosts: short bursts of extra visibility. Great when you want more leads this week.
  • Saved searches premium: faster alerts and more filters. Manage from your saved searches.
  • Receipts and payment methods are available from billing settings.
  • Need a record? You can download your past lead purchases as CSV from Leads → Purchases.
  • Lead Wallet: add funds on the Leads page (use the Top up button in the header or the Lead Wallet card). Then use “Buy with wallet” for instant checkout.
  • Low balance nudge: if a lead costs more than your balance, click “Add $X and buy” to top up and finish in one step.
  • Auto top‑up (optional): set a minimum balance and default add amount. When you don’t have enough during a wallet purchase, we’ll send you to top up and auto‑buy when you return.
  • On Leads → Purchases, you’ll see your wallet balance and the last few wallet transactions.

Notifications

  • Enable push on mobile and email alerts on web so you never miss a message, booking, or payment update.
  • You can turn marketing emails on or off in Settings.

Privacy & safety

  • Share only what you’re comfortable with. You control what appears on your public profile.
  • Keep payments in the app for protection. Avoid sending deposits off‑platform.
  • Report any issue from a chat or profile — our team will review.

Troubleshooting

Can’t sign in

  • Double‑check your email and password. Try resetting your password.
  • If you signed up on mobile, try completing sign‑in from web at /account/signin.

No messages or alerts

  • On mobile, open Settings and enable notifications for the app.
  • On web, check your email spam folder and mark messages as not spam.

Payment issues

  • Make sure your card details are up to date in billing settings.
  • If a milestone looks wrong, message the other person before disputing.

Location not working

  • Enable location permissions on your phone or browser.
  • You can still search by city even with location off.

General errors

  • Refresh the page and try again.
  • Clear your browser cache/cookies and sign in again.
  • If it keeps happening, contact support from Settings → Help (an admin will check system health).
